The Michael and Sheila McQuillen Summer Research Award of $3000 will go to a physics major who will work full-time on research with a faculty member in the Department of Physics and Astronomy for eight weeks this summer. This award was made possible by a generous donation by the McQuillens.
NOTE: The Department will also fill other summer positions from the list of those applying for the McQuillen Award.APPLICATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY
Applications must be submitted via e-mail to the Department Chair, Dr. Lynn Cominsky (lynnc@universe.sonoma.edu) by 9 a.m., Monday, March 3, 2008. The decision of the Department will be made later that day. All candidates will receive notice of the Department’s decision. The Department reserves the right to decline to make an award.
To apply submit a one to two-page statement describing the research project you wish to participate in and what you intend to do. Start by reading the opportunities on campus for Sonoma State University students, and then discuss your project with the faculty member you wish to work with. In your application state your qualifications and give the reasons why you you believe you should receive the award.
Applicants must be enrolled students majoring in physics at Sonoma State University and not have graduated by May 2008. Students who will have completed Physics 314 by then will be given some preference. The recipient must be willing to commit to full-time work for a minimum of eight weeks during the summer of 2008.
