Eclipse Questions
Work on and complete Voyager projects 14 and 15.
Also answer the following questions as part of your lab report.
Additional questions for lunar eclipses
For our location at SSU when is the next umbral lunar eclipse that will be visible? Will this eclipse be total or only partial?
Determine the times of the beginning, the middle, and the end of the eclipse. How long does the eclipse last from our location? What is the altitude of the moon at mid eclipse?
If this eclipse is not a total umbral eclipse for us at SSU, is there any location on the earth for which the eclipse would be observed to be total?
Select an optimum location to observe this eclipse. Explain how you made your selection.
Additional questions for solar eclipses
For our location at SSU when is the next solar eclipse that will be visible? What kind of solar eclipse will be visible?
Determine the times of the beginning, the middle, and the end of the eclipse. How long does the eclipse last from our location? What is the altitude of the sun at mid eclipse?
If the eclipse at SSU is not total or annular, determine some locations on the earth where the eclipse will be total or annular. List these locations. Is this eclipse total or annular at these locations? Sketch an approximate eclipse track on a sketch of an earth map.
Select an optimum location to observe this eclipse. Explain how you made your selection.
General questions to answer in your conclusions
What causes eclipses?
Why do eclipses not occur every month?
On the average, how many lunar eclipses can be observed from a given location each year? Or, how many years must elpase between observable lunar eclipses at a given location?
