Using the EPOCH Telescope at SSUO

The EPOCH telescope is a 10-inch f/5 computer controlled telescope. This telescope is currently the primary telescope used at SSUO. This document is a step-by-step cookbook for using this telescope at SSU.

CCDSoft Manual (version 5)

This is a 300 page, 32 MB document in PDF format.

This is currently the CCD camera control software provided with SBIG CCD cameras. In addition to basic camera control functions, this software includes some rather substantial capabilities for data reduction and image analysis. The software can produce a catalog of all objects detected in an image, can automatically allign and combine a set of images, can obtain a precision astrometric plate solution for a set of images, and can reduce light curve photometry for a set of images. By default, CCDSoft saves images in FITS format. CCDSoft can also read FITS format images. Many advanced features (beyond simple camera control) require access to The Sky sky simulation software by Software Bisque.

AIP Documentation (tutorials)

Astronomical Image Processing (AIP), is a software system that accompanies The Handbook of Astronomical Image Processing, by Richard Berry and James Burnell. This is a major astronomical software system that contains image reduction, image analysis, and image processing tools. Updated versions of some of the tutorials that accompany the software are available here.

Tutorial 1: Basic Skils

Tutorial 3: Image Evaluation

Tutorial 4: Astrometry

Tutorial 5: Photometry

Tutorial 10: Image Registration and Blinking

CCDOPS Manual

This is a 100+ page, 390 K document in PDF format.

This is the CCD camera control software that was originally developed by SBIG and provided with all SBIG cameras. This is the camera control software used at SSUO prior to September 2001. By default, CCDOPS saves images in native ST7 camera format. CCDOPS can save images in FITS format, but cannot read FITS format images.
