Text Box: Physics 116: Introductory Laboratory Experience

Course Description:Laboratory, 3 hours. Demonstrations and participatory experiments are used to increase the student’s familiarity with gravitational, electromagnetic, and nuclear forces in nature. Applications include biological, geophysical, medical, and environmental phenomena. Satisfies GE, category B1 or B3, and GE laboratory requirements.

Prerequisite: previous or concurrent enrollment in PHYS 114.

Class meeting time: 1:00-3:40 am Thursday (Darwin 308 B1)

Welcome to the Lab. In this class you will obtain hands on experience and work on a number of experiments to enhance your understanding of the natural world and course material from PHYS 114.

 

Grading Policy:

13 Experiments (will drop the lowest experiment score) 80%

Final practical 20%

Homework:

Homework will consist of doing pre-lab, calculation, and lab write up for each experiment.

 

Final Practical Exam

This practical exam involves solving a number of unknown parameters based on equipment provided. Skills developed during the semester will prepare students for this exercise.
