How to Get Higher Scores on Quizzes and Exams
- Read each question carefully and understand what is given and what is sought.
- If symbols are given for quantities, use them. If they are not given, define your own, and make your definitions clear and explicit. Always state answers in terms of given quantities.
- Draw a sketch whenever it will help. Always sketch potential energy functions.
- Work in symbols. You can get partial credit for writing down the correct equations, even if you make errors in evaluating the quantities numerically. The numbers should first appear in the last step.
- When you do enter numbers, include units, and make sure they come out right. Always check that your answers have the right dimensions.
