Flying in?
While we are the same distance (about 100 km) from Oakland (OAK) and San Francisco (SFO) airports, it is usually a faster drive to and from Oakland. From OAK take I-880 north to I-580 west across the Richmond-San Rafael bridge to US 101 north. Then follow driving directions below.

From SFO take I-380 to I-280 north to state highway 1 over the Golden Gate Bridge, then stay with US 101, and follow driving directions below.

If you don't wish to rent a car, Airport Express Sonoma County runs buses every hour in the mornings and every 1.5 hours in the afternoons and evenings from SFO and every two hours from OAK. These stop in Petaluma, Rohnert Park (about 2 miles from campus), and Santa Rosa only. The bus drivers will make phone calls so that we can meet the bus in Rohnert Park.

Driving from the Bay Area?
Drive north on 101 to just past Petaluma, then take the Old Redwood Highway exit and turn right toward Penngrove. Turn right at the fire station onto Main St. which almost immediately turns left and becomes Petaluma Hill Rd. Follow it northward to East Cotati Ave., turn left, and enter the campus at the main entrance (a divided road). Speakers should stop at the parking kiosk by the flagpole to pick up a parking permit and come to the office of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Darwin 300.

I recommend staying in Rohnert Park or Cotati, 2 - 3 miles away, or Petaluma or Santa Rosa, 6-12 miles away. An alternative, particularly good for those flying out the next morning, is to stay near the airport. It is a much faster drive back after dinner than in the morning.
